A Personal Retrospective - CCP DT CALL

Recently, due to a DT Call, I have been reminiscing, looking back over my blog at my favourite projects.  I'd like to share some of them with you today.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1 - "You Bewitch Me"

You can find the blog post relating to this creation HERE.

My absolute favourite project to date has still got to be this fantastic SHADOW BOX which still stands proudly on my mantle piece all year round!

I do often gravitate toward Halloween themes. Well, I certainly did this time!  My tastes change so frequently but I just embrace whatever inspiration comes my way!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

 2 - "Memories"

You can find the blog post for this one, HERE.

This project really was inspired by my memories.  I wanted it to summarise my childhood interests and hobbies.

The top left section simply contains the letter "S" my initial and the section with the tree and the map in the background signifies our holidays as a child, especially up to the gorgeous Isle of Mull in Scotland.  I also included a musical note, and sheet music as I was very musical as a child, having singing and piano lessons as well as taking part in local choirs and shows.  Of course I couldn't miss out my long long love of all crafts and this is where the thimble and scissors come in!

Nowadays, my overwhelming nerdiness and obsession with most things Sci-fi and dystopia are my biggest interests and I occasionally use these interests to inspire my art (as shown in the Star Trek and The Walking Dead projects further down!)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

 3 - "Laugh" (a family album)

More photos and even a video showing more of this creation is on my blog HERE.

I love to incorporate all kinds of materials and techniques in my projects and this album is no exception!  I do love to get stuck into a project and lose myself in to process.  I find albums perfect for this and it almost becomes rhythmical as I methodically work through the pages.  I need to make more!

END OF DT APPLICATION

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Me being me, I couldn't just stick to 3 favourites!

I've added a few more below which I just couldn't leave out and if you click on the description below each one it will take you to the full blog post for that particular project.

This was a time consuming project, but I so so enjoyed working on it!  It now comes out each December. My wife and I enjoy opening each drawer to see what Christmas themed activity or saying is hidden inside!

I have a passion for Art Journaling and 3D elements such as wood and greyboard frequently make their way onto my pages.

It's not unknown for me to include digital images in my projects.

MDF Artist Trading Card

Mixed Media Canvas - Live Long & Prosper
I love to incorporate greyboard and wood shapes into a lot of my projects, and this Spock / Star Trek themed canvas is no exception!

I love the versatility of greyboard and mdf!  The same pieces can have such different looks with different techniques thrown at them!

Thank you as always for popping by.  I hope this has given you a little insight into who I am, both personally and as an artist and crafter.  I consider my art a journey, forever learning, forever exploring and I love sharing that journey with you!

Welcome to Day #7

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Summary Process

I couldn't go without one final time using my favourite background technique!  Yes, the "Wrinkle-Free Distress" technique by Tim Holtz!

I cracked out my other favourite technique once again too... the white pen doodling round the edges of the background! I also used the white pen to splash white on the pink area of the background.

The inked background was layered onto brown cardstock before adding to the card.

The cute image from the Bubbles range by That Craft Place (link below) is printed onto That Craft Place Super-Smooth card and coloured with Copics (colour list also below!)

I finished the card with a the greeting stamped in matching distress ink, perfectly framed with lust flowers, handmade by Petal Lu (link below).

DAY #6 - Mixed Media Card Week

Hello!  This week I share with you a series of inky mixed media cards I've been making!

Each day I'll highlight one card and talk you through the supplies and techniques I've used.

Welcome to Day #6

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Summary Process

Yes, back to my current favourite technique for card backgrounds!  The "Wrinkle-Free Distress" technique by Tim Holtz!

I got added texture in the background by dripping plain water onto the almost dried background.

Instead of white pen round the edges I decided to get my sewing machine out and machine around the background prior to mounting on the card.

I stamped the cake stamp several times onto different papers and paper pieced the cake together.  The stamp set came with two different sized cakes so I simply cut more by hand to make the cake taller!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I used the following materials:

Tall Narrow Card Blank
Winsor & Newton Smooth Surface Cartridge Paper (220gsm)
Various patterned paper scraps

Distress Inks (Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Seedless Preserves)
Archival Ink (Jet Black)
Posca Paint Marker (White)

Hello! Welcome back to Mixed Media Card Week!

Each day I'll highlight one card and talk you through the supplies and techniques I've used.

Welcome to Day #4

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Summary Process

For this card I again used the Tim Holtz "Wrinkle-Free Distress" technique, although this time used DecoArt Media Mister sprays in place of Distress Inks.

I love the vibrancy of the colours and the fact that they are permanent once dry.

Prior to adding the colour to my background I used clear embossing powder with a "mini squares" stencil to create resist areas.

Check out the other posts from this weeks series where I cover other techniques and ideas.

Yet again I used the "Wrinkle-Free Distress" techniques by Tim Holtz for the background.

The "LOVE" and arrows came from a stencil by That Craft Place and were applied in Archival Ink.

I died cotton bias binding with Distress Inks and finished the card with a stamped mandala.

DAY #2 - Mixed Media Card Week

Hello!  This week I share with you a series of inky mixed media cards I've been making!

Each day I'll highlight one card and talk you through the supplies and techniques I've used.

Welcome to Day #2

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Mixed Media Card by The Crippled Crafter

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Summary Process

I used the "Wrinkle-Free Distress" technique by Tim Holtz for this background.

Again I used a white pen to doodle round the edges of the background!  In fact I think I do this on most my cards! I guess you could say it is my signature move!

This time the stripe on the white card is inked with a baby wipe using distress ink by using masking tape to create a clean edged strip of card to work.  Once dry, and with the masking tape still in place, I stamped the "Cracks" detail in the same distress ink.

The inked background was layered onto navy cardstock before adding to the card.

I used the same stamped butterfly today, but instead stamped and heat embossed it onto navy cardstock.
The card was finished the card with wire antennas and completely lush flowers handmade by Petal Lu.

I used the following materials:

A5 Card Blank
Winsor & Newton Smooth Surface Cartridge Paper (220gsm)
Navy Cardstock

Ranger's Perfect Medium
White Embossing Powder
Posca Paint Marker (White)

DAY #1 - Mixed Media Card Week

Hello!  This week I share with you a series of inky mixed media cards I've been making!

Each day I'll highlight one card and talk you through the supplies and techniques I've used.

Welcome to Day #1

Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Mixed Media Card by The Crippled Crafter

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Summary Process

I used an adaptation of both the "Wrinkle-Free Distress" and "Wrinkled Distress" techniques by Tim Holtz for the colourful background.

Using a white pen to doodle round the edges of the background frames it nicely and adds non-fussy details to the finished card.

The grid stripe on the white card is stamped in black Archival Ink by using masking tape to create a clean edged strip of card to stamp onto.

The inked background was layered onto black cardstock before adding to the card.

I coloured the stamped butterfly using Distress Markers and finished the card with wire antennas and a trail of tiny black flatback pearls.
