Journal52 #5 - Television

Thankyou for all your comments on my last blog post, it's always so nice to be able to share my art with people.

Today's post is taking us back to the journal prompts from www.Journal52.com

I am up to week 5, and this page follows the prompt "Television" and couldn't be any more "me" if it tried!

As a huge science fiction nerd I have many TV shows I could have chosen from, but as I'm currently rewatching Stargate SG-1 from start to finish I thought it an appropriate choice. Plus I instantly had an idea for an awesome Stargate themed page!

The main feature of this page is the SG-1 Stargate itself, which holds a wormhole through which the show's characters travel to other planets each episode.

I kept the background simple as the Stargate contains a lot of intricate detail that I didn't want overshadowing by too much business elsewhere.  This page was mainly painted in acrylics.

The sentiment is a play on the saying "There's no place like home", with the " home " bit replaced by the Stargate symbol address for the planet Earth; home for most of us I presume!!

The "There's no place like" is formed from die cut letters bought from my favourite craft shop, That Craft Place.  Those, along with the earth address and the yellow Stargate chevrons were coated with Glossy Accents, also from That Craft Place.

Thankyou for popping by, please do leave me a comment, I just love hearing what you folks think of my creations!

Bye for now,

Live, Laugh, Love - A charity canvas

This past week I was able to take a welcome break from making the 12 themed pages for a swap I'm involved with, to create this special 16" x 20" canvas (not that I'm bored with the book pages! Just nice to create on a different substrate).

Close up photos further down.

I was asked if I would like to create something special to donate as a prize for a special fundraiser. So this canvas will help raise the money needed to ensure 2 gorgeous dogs get to travel from hell in Romania. Once here in the UK these two dogs, under the care of Babworth Animal Rescue Kennels, will get their chance at a family of their own! And who could resist these faces...

Please visit the Alexandra's Animals facebook page to buy tickets for this raffle and be in with a chance of winning my canvas or one of the other fabulous valentine themes prizes!

Anyway, back to this canvas! I created the background using acrylic paint and shimmer sprays. I added more layers to the background with dry wall tape, texture gel and embossing powders.

The letters were die cut with a Sizzix bigz die in 4mm greyboard and these are Gesso'd before adding teal spray ink to some and a silver metalic paint to the others. I also Glossy Accented the teal letters to add variation of texture to the project. The two teal "L's" were layered onto book page rosettes which were coloured in the same way as the flowers.

The mdf birds are from That Craft Place, my absolute favourite craft shop! These were Gesso'd before adding the teal spray ink and finishing with crackle glaze.

The flowers were all made by hand using old book pages which I sprayed with the same inks that were used in the background. I then accented with either silver or black paint.

The piece was finished off with a couple of die cut flourishes, LOTS of flatback pearl bling and black sequin strings round the sides of the canvas. I feared I may have over done the bling factor, but the more I've sat and stared at it, the more I was convinced that bling was needed!

Thankyou as always for visiting my blog. Every single visit and comment is so deeply appreciated.

Journal52 #4 - Silhouettes

Trying to get a little more caught up with my Journal52 prompts so here is last week's prompt, Silhouettes!

I just love this page, I may or may not as a quote to it at some point, not yet decided!

Well that means if I do the next page by Friday I'll be keeping up to date! Next prompt is "Television"... which I have plenty of ideas for!

For now, stay crafty!

Journal52 #3 - Conversation Starters

Here we are on Journal52, week 5 and as always, I'm running behind!

So here is my journal page using the prompt "Conversation Starters" for week 3.

I didn't spend too much time on this, just say in front of a Pretty Little Liars marathon on Netflix and had a doodle! To me that's what art journals are all about!
