Set Your Goals High - Art Journal Page - Boingy Rabbit!

I'm sat here at my monthly blogging group (typed Tuesday 3 May), trying to think what to write, and somehow words are eluding me! I really do look forward to the first Tuesday of each month when I have a reason to dust myself off and get out of the house and into the real world beyond!  Always grateful to be back in my own company at the end though to rest and recharge my batteries!

Art journal page by The Crippled Crafter. Featuring Bloobel Stamps and Gelatos.

I made this journal page Monday evening using a fantastic digi stamp from Bloobel Stamps on Etsy.

I used to really detest fussy cutting, but now actually like to sit on the sofa with my wife and dogs for company and slowly cut out all the bits for a project!... With my poor manual dexterity I have to pace how much I do in one sitting though, otherwise the cutting gets messier and messier!

I used the following materials:

JOURNAL
Handmade journal using Daler Rowney Mixed Media Paper

"Boingy Rabbit" by Bloobel Stamps on Etsy
(printed onto That Craft Place Super-Smooth paper
& coloured with Copics & Promarkers)

MEDIUMS USED

Archival Ink (Tree Branch, Jet Black)
Distress Ink (Mowed Lawn, Gathered Twig, Faded Jeans)
Posca Paint Markers (White, Black)

Here's the main double page spread. I used Gelatos for the background, setting with heat tool so the the colours don't smudge. Before heat setting though, I used a stencil and baby wipe to wipe back the gelatos in areas.

I used both Copics and Promarkers to Colour the image and adhered it to the page with gel Medium.

The sentiment is stamped in Archival Ink onto a scrap piece of thick cartridge paper .

I added colour to the green cardstock with Distress Inks.
I decided to glue only the bottom of the grass to give the page some texture.

Because I sewed the last page of one signature on my journal to the first page of the next signature (to give the finished journal some strength), this created pockets throughout the journal into with these extra pages slot!

I used a Gelato in "Mango" to add detail to the carrots before distressing slightly with Archival Ink in Tree Branch.

MDF Remote Control Holder (That Craft Place)

Just a reminder that the current Mixed Media Anything Goes challenge is ongoing over on the That Craft Place Challenge Blog!  You have until 15th August to show us your wonderful creations.  We love seeing crafters of all skill levels so please do join in.

Whilst down on at the That Craft Place shop on the south coast this weekend I picked up my bag of MDF goodies and couldn't wait to get going with them.

So yesterday I got stuck in with decorating up this amazing Remote Control holder!  The well made MDF that TCP use is 4mm thick, so sturdy and perfect for this handy little storage thingy!

I used the following materials:

THAT CRAFT PLACE MDF / GREYBOARD: MDF Remote Control Holder

OTHER PRODUCTS USED: 8" x 8" Graphic45 "Rare Oddities" Paper Pad

All products above available from That Craft Place.

Summary Process:

All MDF parts painted with 2 coats of black gesso.

Paper trimmed to size and adhered with Mod Podge Matte to all parts except the side pieces.

All parts sealed with 1 coat of Mod Podge Matte.

Remote Holder put together! (I put a small squirt of tacky glue in the joints to secure but to be honest these are so well made and a nice snug fit that I didn't really need to!).

Adhere paper to the sides of the remote holder and seal with Mod Podge.

Joy To The World

Good evening! I'm sat here at my monthly blogging group in my town so thought I'd better get a blog post published!

I originally made this as my DT make for the next challenge over at That Craft Place but since decided to make something else!  This is inspired by the Christmas hymn "Joy To The World", although I've not created it with a Christmas theme!

Faux Galvanised Steel - Wedding Box

Good afternoon!  I'm here today to share with you this project that I've had in mind for some time!  Yesterday evening I really got out of my comfort zone and got myself out of the house to attend the local Blogging Group.  And boy, am I glad I did!  What a great friendly group, and just being their motivated me to get on an finish this blog post!

Anyway, I found myself inspired by this tutorial for Faux Galvanised Steel by Shelly Hickox and consequently spent some time making this box with the "No Cards" challenge over on the That Craft Place Challenge Blog  in mind!

So here is the Keepsake box I've made! It is going to hold one of our wedding invites (that I made) along with Claire and I's corsages (that I also made).  I'm also making an album to go in the box, holding our favourite photos from the day.

I used the following materials / steps:

BOX: 10" diameter Paper Mache circular box from Hobbycraft.  Primed with black gesso before loosely following Shelly Hickox's Faux Galvanised Steel tutorial (link above).

BIRD CAGE: Primed with black gesso and painted in the same way as the box.

PAPER FLOWERS: Old book pages cut and rolled up before inking with Distress Ink (Vintage Photo) or Archival Ink (Watering Can).  Blue flowers cut by hand from papers from stash, inked with Archival Ink and glazed with Matt Mod Podge.  Same paper used to line the box.

BIRD & HEARTS: Primed with black gesso before painting with home mixed dark teal acrylic paint.  Inked edges with Archival Ink then a thick coat of Crackle Accents applied.

Greyboard bird cage, and MDF bird and mini hearts designed and sold by That Craft Place (love Lisa's MDF and greyboard!).

LACE & CROCHET TRIM: All from my local sewing shop Cottontail Crafts.
DecoArt paints, Crackle Accents, Pinflair glue gel, distress ink and archival ink all from That Craft Place!
