TCP MDF totally rocks! ... Oh, and it's challenge time!

Good morning!  It is time for a new challenge over at the
That Craft Place challenge blog

Before I get on to the details of this months challenge I NEED to fill you guys in on my trip to the south coast this weekend! I'm currently in a Holiday Inn preparing to go celebrate my cousins wedding in Southampton; that should be a fantastic day!

BUT!, yesterday I was lucky enough to go visit the That Craft Place shop in Polegate! Oh My WOW! It felt surreal and fantastic to finally be there in person! Sadly I missed Lisa but got to meet the Dashing Danny who was busy slaving away cutting the fantastic MDF goodies that they sell.

I also got to meet, in real life, my Crafty Besty Erin, who is also on the TCP Design Team. She's just as crazy and awesomely cool in person!

So, here I am this morning, still so excited from yesterday's fun! Let's get onto the challenge! This fortnight the theme is

MIXED MEDIA ANYTHING GOES

I used the following materials:

THAT CRAFT PLACE MDF / GREYBOARD: MDF Hanging Plaques, Greyboard Cogs, Greyboard Paint Brush, Greyboard Padlock, A4 Greyboard Sheet (from which I die-cut the TCP letters).

MEDIUMS USED: Black Gesso, Pinflair Buff-It (Slate & Red), Glossy Accents, DecoArt Dazzling Metallics (Silver), PVA Glue.

OTHER PRODUCTS USED: Patterned Paper from a pad by Studio Light, Craft Wire.

All products above available from That Craft Place.

ANYTHING ELSE: Aluminium Foil, Dry Wall Tape, Candle Wax, Molotow Paint Marker, Sizzix Bigz Alphabet Dies (Lollipop font).

Summary Process:

Aluminium foil glued to the MDF Plaques and "aged" with a flame. Melted candle wax randomly over most of the plaque before rubbing back any exposed soot that was left! Pinflair Buff-It in Slate rubbed lightly over a few random areas. (I also added a few pieces of dry wall tape to the plaques before adding the foil).

All Greyboard prepped with black Gesso.

TCP letters dry-brushed in layers with black Gesso and Pinflair Buff-It in Slate and Red. Outline of letter defined with a paint marker before adding paper to the back to make the letters pop.

PVA Glue applied to the cogs and only partially dried before painting with the silver paint (which leaves lovely crackly streaks in the silver paint).

Same technique applied to the handle of the Greyboard paint brush. The ferrule of the paint brush painted with the silver paint before having a coat of Glossy Accents (the same was done to the Greyboard Padlock). Red Pinflair Buff-It applied to the top of the paint brush.

Silver craft wire aged in the same way as the plaques before twisting and then threading through the plaques to finish.
